Required Run Rate / Chase Calculator
Find out how many runs a team needs, how many legal balls remain and what run rate is required to reach a target. This is a mathematical chase guide, not a prediction of who will win.
How to use
- Enter the target score (one more than the opponent's total).
- Enter the chasing team's current runs.
- Enter completed overs and balls bowled in the current over.
- Enter the scheduled total overs for the innings.
- Click Calculate to see runs needed, balls remaining and required rate.
Worked Example
Scenario: Target = 181, Current = 120, 15 overs completed (0 balls).
Calculation: Runs needed = 181 − 120 = 61. Balls remaining = (20 × 6) − (15 × 6) = 120 − 90 = 30. Required rate = 61 ÷ 5 = 12.20 runs per over.
Enter: Target = 181, Current = 120, Overs = 15, Balls = 0, Scheduled overs = 20
Limitations
This calculator assumes:
- No further wickets fall during the chase.
- No interruptions (rain, bad light, etc.).
- The full quota of scheduled overs is available.
Actual match outcomes depend on wickets, conditions, and many other factors.
